Hello beauties and welcome back! Thank you for joining me! I have been trying to grow long healthy nails for about a month and I’ve learned quite a lot! For instance, nails love routine and these are the five steps I have been following in my pursuit of longer nails.
- Keep your fingernails dry and clean
This step is essential for many reasons. First of all, you will keep any bacteria at bay and it will be easier to file and polish your nails afterwards. Always remove any excess nail polish, oils or dirt with a nail polish remover before you proceed with the next step.
- Push back your cuticles
If your cuticles aren’t extremely long you don’t have to cut them, pushing them back will work just fine. When we talk about cuticles, we are only speaking about the already dead skin that is covering your nails. This is the only skin you want to push back and by doing so your nails will look better and it will help with nail growth, because there won’t be anything that is stopping your nails from growing out.
- File your nails regularly
Filing your nails once a week will keep them shaped. This won’t help with nail growth just like cutting your dead ends won’t help with hair growth but by doing so your hair looks better. The same applies to your nails. If you file them regularly, you’ll have a beautiful base to work with.
- Apply a protective layer
Although I use nail strengthener, I can’t tell if they really work. With that said, it is important to apply a base coat before you apply your nail polish of choice. The base coat (whether it is a nail strengthener or not) will protect your nails from turning yellow and it will provide you with a smooth surface to work with.
- Use moisturizer
We often use moisturizer on our hands without thinking about massaging it into our cuticles. I used to be that girl who layers up on the moisturizer but the skin around my nails always looked dry. And this is such an important step because the more moisturized your cuticles are, the stronger and longer your nails will grow. With this in mind, you can take one minute a day out of your time and rub some moisturizer into your cuticles, right? And the best thing is you can use almost everything! If you don’t have cuticle oil on hand, go in the kitchen and just take some olive oil or some coconut oil. You can even mix it with your hand cream for even better results!
